We may be "Seniors," but we're Not Old Yet

Join Dr. Stacy Steele and her faithful pal Karoo as they walk 100 miles to prove that getting older does NOT mean you need to slow down! While they're at it, they're "kicking trail" and raising funds for two very special animal charities: World Vets and Old Dog Haven. Follow along on their adventures from June 7-14, 2015!

Welcome to the Not-Old-Yet 100-Mile Walk Blog!

Hello readers! I'm Karoo:

I turned 9 this year, and my mom says I'm really a "senior" dog - whatever that means. I sure don't feel like an old dude though. I love to run and eat snacks and play and eat snacks and fetch and eat snacks. Did I mention that I love snacks? I love going walking with my mom every day. She usually walks 4-6 miles along the beach every morning, and my brother and sisters and I play fetch along the way. A few years ago, my mom and I walked 100 miles to raise something called "money" to help dogs and cats in need. Well, my mom walked 100 miles. I probably walked, ran, and spun at least twice that far!
This time, we're walking to prove a point - that being a "senior" does NOT mean that we have to slow down a single bit! We're also going to raise more of that money stuff. Mom let me help choose which charities to help, and I picked two: World Vets and Old Dog Haven.
World Vets takes my mom away on trips sometimes. I don't like it when she's gone, but I try not to pout about it because she helps lots of dogs and cats in other countries. One time, she brought back a scraggly little puppy, who grew up to be Oreja, my favorite sister in the whole world!
I picked Old Dog Haven as our second charity because they help so many dogs I know. Their goal is for no old dog's last experience to be a shelter kennel, and they sponsor "retirement homes" for dogs who probably wouldn't be adopted otherwise. Two of my sisters have come home through their rescue program, and I get to meet lots of Old Dog Haven foster dogs when I'm at work with my mom. I'm even helping to teach one of the old dogs how to "sit" by showing him how (don't tell me we seniors can't learn new tricks!).
Anyway, I hope you'll enjoy following along on our adventures as my mom and I walk 100 miles again, because we can, and because there are some critters out there who need our help. Please donate by clicking on the big "Donate" button, and share this blog with your pet-loving friends and family members.

Thank you very much, and I'll keep you posted as we get ready to start walking.
